Are both doctors board certified within their specialty? What are the benefits of having a board certified plastic surgeon?

Both Drs. Heffelfinger and Krein are double board certified through ABO (American Board of Otolaryngology) and ABFPRS (American Board of Facial Plastics Reconstructive Surgery).

A board certification proves that a physician has the competency and the understanding of medicine needed to meet or exceed the standards, based on the criteria that the board has set out in that particular field.

In order to become board-certified, a surgeon needs to go through many rigorous exams along with additional training to prove that they are up to date with the latest medical technology. In addition, they need to show that the work they do is up to the latest standards when it comes to safety and ethical practices.

How do you determine if a patient is a good candidate for cosmetic surgery?

A patient is a good candidate for cosmetic surgery if they have a defined problem, reasonable expectations and good overall health.

Is there a fee for new consult appointments?

There is $100 non-refundable fee that will need to be paid at the time of booking your appointment. This fee will be applied to any service that you receive.

When can I apply makeup after filler injections?

One of the great things about filler injectable products is that there is virtually no downtime after the procedure.  You can wear makeup after your injections.

When can I apply makeup after CO2 laser treatment?

After laser resurfacing, you often need to wear ointment to keep healing skin moist, so you may have to wait longer to start wearing makeup again. In general, you should wait five to seven days.

How long does bruising and swelling last after my procedure?

Non-surgical or office-based cosmetic procedures often involve little to no bruising. Post-operative bruising and swelling from surgical facial cosmetic procedures varies from person to person but usually begins to resolve by the end of the first week. It may take 1 to 3 weeks for the bruising and swelling to fully to away. You can cover up bruises with makeup, such as a concealer stick. Detailed information specific to your procedure will be given during a consult appointment.

How soon can I work out after my procedure?

Depending on the procedure, you should avoid aerobic activity for at least 2 to 3 weeks following surgery. You would need to avoid all contact sports for 6 week following rhinoplasty surgery.

When can I fly?

This can vary from patient to patient based on the surgery that is performed. As a general rule, patients will want to wait at least 10 days to two weeks to fly after they have had surgery of any kind performed. Sometimes patients will be advised to take additional time away from planes just to ensure proper healing.

When can I color my hair after having a facelift?

It is advisable to wait until the incisions from your facelift are completely closed and not susceptible to the toxic effects of hair coloring agents. Usually this means at least 4 weeks or longer.

When can I wash my hair after facelift?

You may bathe the day after your surgery. If your surgeon has asked you to leave the bandages on, avoid getting your head dressing wet.

After the dressings are removed, shower and wash your hair. Use warm not hot water (much as you would wash an infant.) Use only baby shampoo. Do not let the shower beat directly on your face. Be careful not to pull on the sutures or staples while washing or combing your hair. Do not blow dry your hair.

When can I blow my nose after having a Rhinoplasty?

Avoid nose blowing anywhere from 2 to 4 weeks or longer. Even after permission is granted, only gentle nose-blowing is recommended. Since congestion and drainage are common side effects immediately following rhinoplasty, this advice may be difficult to follow. However, unnecessary physical disturbance of the nose is critical to prevent bleeding and disruption of the healing process. Saline nasal spray is the recommended course of action.

What is the downtime after a Face-lift?

Recovery time from a facelift will vary depending on the individual, but as a general rule, for most people of good health, noticeable swelling will be reduced within the first 10 days after surgery. Typically, most of our patients are able to return to work after 2 weeks post op.
