Microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment that stimulates blood circulation and collagen production. It’s ideal if you want to boost collagen production and improve the appearance of scars.
Something that’s important to realize is that there are a few things to avoid after your session. Microneedling is designed to puncture your skin, which means you need to protect your skin as it goes through the healing process.
Here are 3 things to avoid after your treatment.
Stay Away from the Sun
You know how important it is to protect your skin from the sun. But when you undergo microneedling, sunblock is more important than ever.
Any type of resurfacing treatment can lead to hyperpigmentation when you expose your skin to UV rays. To limit your sun exposure, rather remain indoors after your facial treatment. If you do need to go outside, be sure to liberally apply sunscreen and cover your head.
Avoid Certain Skin Care Products
Try to avoid using vitamin C serum and retinol A for at least 48 hours after your treatment. Once a full two days have passed, you can gradually add the ingredients back to your daily routine. Also, try to avoid other strong anti-aging formulas for a few days to give your skin time to heal.
Ditch the Exfoliation
As your skin heals, stay away from abrasive products such as alcohol-based toners and exfoliators. It may be tempting to exfoliate as usual but remember that your skin is healing and regenerating after microneedling. Instead, apply products that help soothe your skin and encourage it to heal.
Recovery After Microneedling
Most people experience a small amount of redness after a treatment. This should fade within 48 hours. You may also experience breakouts and peeling, which will take a little longer to heal.
Visible recovery from your session happens within the first couple of days, but healing carries on below the skin’s surface for up to two months afterward.
By avoiding the sun, certain skincare products, and not exfoliating, you can ensure your skin heals and regenerates to leave you looking fresh and youthful.
