Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) laser treatments are often used for lightening and removing age spots, sun spots, blotches, and reducing rosacea.
IPL is also a sought-after treatment for improving collagen production, hair removal, and reducing oiliness to reduce the size of your pores.
Here are 4 things you should avoid after your IPL treatments.
-
Stay Out of the Sun
One of the worst things for your skin after IPL is sun exposure. Your skin is extremely sensitive after a treatment, which means time out in the sun could result in significant and painful sunburn. We recommend covering up and wearing a large-brimmed hat for at least a week after your treatments.
-
Avoid Other Hair Removal Methods
Stay away from waxing, tweezing, and depilatories or other hair removal products during the course of your laser treatment. Trying out other hair removal methods on the treated area can prevent you from achieving optimum results.
For anywhere between 5 to 14 days after your IPL treatment, hair shedding may occur on the treated area. While this might look like new hair growth, it’s actually dead hair pushing out of the follicle. You can exfoliate the skin by taking a warm shower and rubbing the area with a loofah or washcloth.
-
Avoid Drying Out
As your skin recovers from an IPL treatment, it will start to dry out and peel a little. Avoid your skin drying out by applying a thick moisturizing cream across the treated area morning and night. This will help keep your skin comfortable and smooth.
-
Avoid Skin Irritants
On that note, you should avoid irritants to your face, such as products that contain any of the following ingredients:
- Benzoyl peroxide
- Retin-A
- Retinol
- Salicylic or glycolic acids
Try to avoid products with these ingredients for about 2 days after your IPL treatment and rather pick a gentle but effective moisturizer to keep your skin from drying out.
Avoid these 4 things and you’ll be on your way to maximum IPL facial skin results!
