Cosmetic surgeries on the nose are one of the most highly sought after procedures by patients, both male and female. It’s easy to see why.
Patients always have a myriad of motivations for wanting to change the size, shape, and position of their nose. Whether you’ve suffered an injury that’s distorted the shape of your nose, if simple tasks like inhaling or exhaling are problematic because of some physical defect, or if you just don’t like the way it looks in relation to the rest of the face, rhinoplasty could be a viable option.
Is Rhinoplasty Right for Me?
Our surgeons will speak with you about whether the procedure is right for you and if it is an appropriate fix for the issues you have with your nose. If in fact you are a candidate for rhinoplasty, our surgeons will develop a customized plan for your unique set of circumstances.
Your surgeon might also take x-rays and a few photos and take those into consideration in order to make the final decision. The procedure, the recovery timeline, and pricing will be discussed at length before things progress any further.
What’s the Procedure?
Essentially, the procedure boils down to sculpting the bone and cartilage inside the nose so that a new structure can be created. To achieve this, small incisions are made on the inside of the nose. At Jefferson Facial Plastics, the incisions can be made with little to no visibility on the skin’s surface.
Any protuberance, asymmetry, or disproportional elements can be removed or altered to the liking of the patient. The way the nose sits in relation to the upper lip and forehead are also subject to alteration so that it can be shaped in better accordance with the rest of the face.
What’s the Recovery Like?
Most rhinoplasty operations are performed on an outpatient basis, but patients are monitored until they feel well enough to be discharged. No two operations are the same, of course, but there are a few guidelines your surgeon will have you follow to aid you in the healing process.
It’s of the utmost importance that no undue stress be exerted on the nose during this time. There may be some bruising and swelling in the affected area, so pain medication can be prescribed if need be. It can take a week or two or more in some cases to make a proper recovery so patience is key throughout the duration of the procedure.
