It’s hard to believe that 2015 is almost over and 2016 is just around the corner. As the New Year approaches, we are looking towards trends in the cosmetic surgery field that will continue to grow, or new trends that might emerge. While drastic changes in demands for specific procedures don’t happen often, the smaller shifts can still say a lot about what people want to improve about their bodies.

Micro-needling continues to rise in popularity

Many cosmetic surgery practices say micro-needling is becoming more and more popular among patients, and the trend will likely continue into 2016. This is from a poll taken by the website RealSelf Today, with 500 board-certified doctors weighing in. The website RealSelf, which focuses on cosmetic procedures with articles and a massive user forum, has seen a large increase in interest in micro-needling.

Micro-needling is a relatively simple procedure where a special instrument with a dozen tiny needles is rolled over the skin. The needles produce tiny injuries that stimulate the skin’s natural collagen and elastin production. The result is smoother, healthier looking skin. Micro-needling is perfect for erasing years of aging and sun damage.

Non-invasive procedures remain popular

Treatments that don’t require going under the knife also continue to rise in popularity. The main benefit of non-invasive procedures is there is very little downtime (if any) afterwards. And thanks to new technology, research and more sophisticated treatments, many patients can achieve spectacular results without a visit to the operating room.

One demographic that is showing greater interest in non-invasive procedures is men. As cosmetic surgery becomes more mainstream and it sheds its past of being in the domain of women, men are a growing segment that seek to improve their looks. Men will account for 15% or more of plastic surgery treatments as we head into 2016. Aside from looking healthy, men also want to stay younger looking so they can better compete in the job market.

Cosmetic surgery is also becoming more popular among two different age groups: the younger crowd and the older crowd (60 and above). Younger patients are more conscious than ever about retaining a youthful appearance. And seniors, many of whom remain in the workforce, are looking to reverse years of sun damage and skin neglect. Seniors have also realized that to stay competitive in the workforce, they must keep looking young and healthy.

Popularity in treatments like Botox and injectable fillers has remained constant. Both are time-tested, safe and produce noticeable results almost immediately. Botox and fillers are perfect for smoothing out the skin, erasing fine lines and wrinkles and giving the skin a much younger appearance.
