The natural aging process can take its toll on our facial skin. There are so many anti-aging products and treatments on the market it can be hard to know where to begin. Some treatments are invasive, like a facelift or facial implants. Others treatments are just as relaxing as they are rejuvenating, like our Signature Facial.

One procedure that has skyrocketed in popularity over the last few years is called micro-needling (also known as Collagen Induction Therapy). This treatment is based on the simple idea that with a little help, the skin is very capable of rejuvenating itself through natural processes.

Micro-needling is when a special pen with 12 very tiny needles on the tip create small holes in the skin. This creates little “micro-injuries” that stimulate the skin’s own collagen production. Collagen is one of the building blocks of the skin and as we age, the amount of collagen in our skin decreases. After your micro-needling treatment, your skin will slowly start producing more collagen in the treated area. Depending on the individual, it can take several months to see the full benefit of this procedure.

Jefferson Facial Plastics uses the Eclipse MicroPen, one of the most advanced micro-needling device available.

What Skin Conditions Can Micro-Needling Treat?

One of the many benefits of micro-needling is that it can treat several skin conditions. Micro-needling can help treat:

  • Acne scars
  • Sun damage
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Stretch marks

Additionally, the tiny skin punctures that micro-needling causes help the skin to soak in gels, creams and serums much more effectively.

Depending on the condition of your skin, you may only need one treatment each year to maintain a healthy glow. For those with deeper wrinkles, more severe scars or deeper pigmentation issues, more micro-needling treatments might be recommended by our aesthetician.

Is Micro-Needling For Me?

Anyone is a potential candidate for micro-needling, but only our professional aesthetician can make that determination. Some reasons why you might not qualify include having an active infection, skin lesions or problems with blood clotting. Most healthy adults are eligible for  micro-needling treatments
