These days, one of the great benefits to those interested in cosmetic surgery is the diversity of options. Not only is there a greater variety in terms of how many features can be targeted but more specifically, there have never been more ways to target one in particular. To rejuvenate the face for example, to restimulate the skin and its cells, muscles, and fibers beneath, you can choose one of several non-invasive options. There are more mechanical options such as microdermabrasion, chemical-based options in what’s known as “chemical peel”, or what we’ll be discussing for today’s blog, laser resurfacing.

What’s in it for Me?

Laser resurfacing has been on the forefront of innovation for years as a method of restoring a younger and more youthful glow to the face. It has been proven again and again to reduce wrinkles, acne scars, and crow’s feet, while tightening skin and restoring your complexion. It works is by using beams of lasers that are concentrated within the affected areas that need to be targeted. Here at Jefferson Facial Plastics, we use something called the SmartXide CO2, made by a company in Italy capable of resurfacing the face and neck in only 20 minutes. The process is quick, convenient, and performed with only minor discomfort as laser resurfacing can be done simply using local anesthetic.

How Does it Work?

Primarily, the laser’s contact with the skin does two things. First, it removes the outer layer of the skin – the epidermis, which is the visible layer. Secondly, it stimulates the lower layer – the dermis, which helps to spurn the growth of collagen, the muscle fibers that tighten and plump skin. Afterwards, in the several days of the recovery process, the skin that has now been brought to the surface will form firmer and smoother than before. Here in Philadelphia, patients who see the best results are typically those who come in for 1 to 3 treatments, with around 2 months in between visits.

Why Wait?

Caring for your skin has never been as easy as it is today. With so many ways to turn back the clock, laser resurfacing is just one solution of many. At Jefferson Facial Plastics we confidently offer a variety of treatments – both invasive and noninvasive – to restore a youthful look to your face and neck, but for the convenience element it’s difficult to think of a procedure that succeeds on that front better than laser resurfacing. If you’d like to discuss it further with one of our surgeons, we strongly encourage you to set up an appointment to see if the SmartXide laser is right for you. Call us today at 215-503-FACE. We look forward to meeting you.
